The American Psychological Association (APA), a Washington, DC-based organization, is dedicated to advancing psychological science and applying research and knowledge to improve lives and benefit society. With a vast amount of valuable information available across its website, the challenge was to make content easier to discover and consume. As a part-time UX designer, my goal was to improve usability by reorganizing content structure and reducing unnecessary page scrolling, creating a more efficient and user-friendly browsing experience.

Design Challenge
The APA website contained a significant amount of valuable content that had grown organically over time, resulting in inconsistent content organization and lengthy scrolling experiences. Many pages lacked a clear structure for presenting large volumes of information, making it difficult for users to efficiently find and consume relevant content. One of the key challenges I addressed was redesigning a member directory page that displayed a large list of APA members with minimal hierarchy or visual organization.

Solution
To reduce excessive scrolling and improve member discoverability, I redesigned the experience using an interactive table with pagination. The solution allowed users to efficiently browse, filter, and navigate through a large set of member information based on their specific needs, creating a more organized and efficient way to access content.
User Research
Through collaboration with APA stakeholders and additional user research, I identified key user needs and business priorities for the member directory experience. These insights helped define the essential functionalities required to make the page easier to navigate, improve member discoverability, and support more efficient browsing.

Based on the prioritized requirements and identified functionalities, I created wireframes that translated business goals and user needs into a structured page layout. The wireframes established the foundation for the interaction model, content hierarchy, and overall browsing experience.

Prototype
A high-fidelity interactive prototype was developed to demonstrate the refined experience and presented to the client for review and feedback. The prototype helped stakeholders visualize the proposed solution, validate design decisions, and align on the final direction before implementation.

Final Look
Following stakeholder review, additional research, and collaborative brainstorming sessions, the design went through several iterations before reaching the final solution. Each iteration helped refine the user experience, improve content organization, and ensure the final product effectively addressed both user needs and business goals.
