National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), part of National Institutes of Health (NIH), formed a Synthetic Biology Consortium as a place for researchers and stakeholders interested in the synthetic biology field to share ideas and bring research to NIH. As a UI/Web Designer, my goal was to create a website that serves its purpose, yet clean and within brand guidelines.

Design Challenge
I was given a short timeline and a limited use of color and design varieties to mimic the parent website NIBIB's look and feel. All the elements have to meet WCAG compliance as well.

NIBIB color palette
Solution
Using the blue shade as the primary color with a light background for the contrast, the website successfully meets the WCAG compliance and provides readability.
User Research
I spoke with the member of the Synthetic Biology Consortium to gather basic info as well as what to focus on when creating the website. I did a separate research to study about the potential users to understand what they do and to prioritize what they would want to get out of this website.

- Funding opportunities for continuous search
- Hero image/graphic that depicts synthetic biology
- Same header from NIBIB
- Simple, yet effective website

Mockup
Low-fidelity mockup is created based on the research findings and reviewed by the client.
Prototype
High-fidelity prototype is designed after a client approval.
