Social Security has used old system for internal employees that is based on the green screen. As a UX specialist, my goal was modernizing the system by creating a web-based application based on user research, prototyping, user testing, and pushing the user-centered design to the production.

Design Challenge
The old design that I could reference had a restricted access that I cannot get into. I was only able to get sanitized screenshots of the system to use as a reference. There is a strict design guideline that I need to follow within SSA branding.

Solution
Using the SSA branding guideline (aka UEF patterns), I created an interactive prototype that has a clean look and feel, web-based, achieves the same business goal, yet more user friendly.
User Interview
Upon researching and gathering the business requirements and old system screenshots, I created a series of user interview questions and conducted user interview with current SSA employees that use the old system.

-
When do you use it?
-
What triggers you to use it?
-
How do you access it?
-
What do you like about it?
-
What are the challenges with it?
-
Do you have suggestions for improving it?
Wireframe
Wireframes are created based on the user interview findings and which UEF patterns are available

Prototype
High-fidelity, interactive prototype designs are created using UEF patterns using Axure
Usability Testing
Prototypes are evaluated by current system users, and the user feedback is consolidated and presented to the project team along with UX recommendations for improvement.
-
Did the user successfully enter targeted criteria & execute search?
-
Did user enter years in the most efficient manner?
-
Did the user find answer?
-
Was the user able to describe functions of Optional Fields?
-
Do you have suggestions for improvement?
